The role suits a technically strong engineer with extensive consulting experience in municipal infrastructure and building-related civil engineering, plus proven project leadership and client management capability.

The Principal Civil Engineer leads design and delivery of civil and municipal infrastructure projects from feasibility and concept through detailed design, tender and construction – covering roads and access, bulk earthworks and platforms, stormwater, sewer, wastewater, potable and fire water – while mentoring engineers and BIM/CAD staff, conducting technical reviews and design sign-off, and supporting tenders, fee proposals and business development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of civil engineering and municipal infrastructure projects

• Manage designs from feasibility and concept through detailed design, tender and construction stages

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technologists and BIM/CAD personnel

• Coordinate civil designs and models with architects, structural engineers, MEP teams and consultants

• Conduct technical reviews, design verification, QA and design sign-off

• Manage project deliverables, budgets, programmes and technical resources

• Support tender submissions, fee proposals and business development

• Provide construction-stage support, RFIs and site inspections; liaise with municipalities for approvals

Required Qualifications

• BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering

• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA

• Typically 8+ years’ consulting engineering experience

• Strong knowledge of roads, bulk earthworks, platform design, stormwater, sewer, wastewater, potable and fire water systems

• Knowledge of SA engineering standards, municipal requirements and design codes; Civil 3D and BIM coordination

• Advantageous: structural design, City of Cape Town approvals, Principal/Associate-level consulting experience
