Job Overview

MSP Staffing is recruiting a Senior Product Engineer (Backend & AI Agents) for a client building AI-powered solutions for enterprise customers, fully onsite in Pretoria (Careers24 2396381; reference SeniorAI2026; permanent; R83,333–R87,083 per month; posted 28 October 2026). The engineer takes ownership of backend architecture, develops intelligent agent systems and delivers reliable, production-ready technology across multiple communication channels.

The role suits a senior backend engineer with at least five years building and operating production systems in Python or TypeScript (Node.js), with demonstrated experience shipping LLM-powered features to production, designing APIs and third-party integrations, working with PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and observability, and mentoring junior engineers – with exposure to agent orchestration, RAG, LLM evaluation, event-driven architecture and WhatsApp/voice AI integrations a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Own backend architecture for enterprise AI products and services
Design, build and scale intelligent agent systems and LLM-powered features in production
Design APIs and integrate third-party platforms across multiple communication channels
Model data and optimise queries in PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
Run cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, logging and monitoring for production reliability
Explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and support technical scoping with clients
Mentor and lead junior engineers

Required Qualifications

At least 5 years’ backend engineering experience building and operating production systems
Strong proficiency in Python or TypeScript (Node.js)
Demonstrated experience delivering LLM-powered features or applications to production
Experience designing APIs, integrating third-party platforms and working with PostgreSQL
Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, logging and monitoring
Advantageous: queues/event-driven architecture, WhatsApp Business API, voice AI or telephony, agent orchestration, RAG, LLM evaluation, Supabase or n8n, POPIA knowledge
