Job Overview

Key Recruitment Group is recruiting an Engineering Lead (Structures) for a well-established design-build company specialising in high-end lightweight structures, based in Cape Town (permanent; apply before 2 January 2027). This is a managerial rather than a design role: the Engineering Lead ensures quality engineered products are delivered on time.

The incumbent leads the engineering team and owns engineering delivery on programme – resource and task planning, Basis of Design and structural design reports, review of steel, connection and substructure design, coordination of outsourced and in-house tensile engineering – acting as the primary engineering contact with Engineers of Record, consultants and clients and working closely with manufacturing, project management and installation.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the engineering team; build a credible second-in-command and succession plan
Own engineering delivery on programme, including resource and task planning in SmartSuite
Prepare and own Basis of Design reports, structural design reports and reaction loads for structures by others
Lead and review steel, connection and substructure design
Coordinate tensile engineering delivered by outsourced specialists and the in-house tensile engineer
Act as primary engineering contact with Engineers of Record, consultants and clients
Drive workflow standardisation, QC and system adherence; own engineering of the pre-designed and modular product range

Required Qualifications

B.Eng / B.Sc in Civil or Structural Engineering; Pr Eng preferable
Around 10 years’ structural engineering experience with strong steel design
Minimum 5 years’ experience leading engineering teams
Proven ability to deliver projects on time and to set up or improve engineering standards, workflows and QC
SolidWorks and RFEM experience advantageous
