Job Overview

Goldman Tech Resourcing (Stand-Out Staffing) is recruiting a Senior Tailings Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team of engineering specialists in Johannesburg (permanent; Careers24 2397029; posted 2 November 2026; apply before 1 January 2027; advertised R66,667–R91,667 per month). The role leads complex tailings engineering projects, oversees facility safety and stability, and contributes to the design and management of tailings storage facilities across South Africa and the African continent.

The engineer plans and manages tailings projects, designs new tailings storage facilities and return-water dams, carries out surveillance, inspections and Engineer of Record (EoR) duties including annual audits, performs geotechnical investigations and slope-stability and seepage analyses, manages proposals and sub-consultants, and mentors graduate to intermediate engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and manage tailings engineering projects

• Design new tailings storage facilities, return water dams and associated infrastructure

• Conduct surveillance, inspections and monitoring of TSFs and return water dams

• Perform and assist with Engineer of Record (EoR) duties, including annual audit inspections

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, site assessments and construction monitoring

• Perform and oversee slope-stability and seepage analyses

• Manage proposals, appoint subcontractors and sub-consultants and report progress to senior management

• Lead and mentor graduate, junior and intermediate engineers

Required Qualifications

• BEng/BSc Eng in Civil Engineering; postgraduate geotechnical study advantageous

• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA

• 7+ years’ tailings engineering experience

• 5+ years’ limit-equilibrium and numerical slope-stability and seepage analysis

• Soil mechanics, CPTu testing/interpretation and laboratory testing of soils and tailings; dam-breach assessment experience

• GeoStudio, PLAXIS or Slide; MS Project or Primavera; AutoCAD Civil 3D or Model Maker; knowledge of engineering contracts
