Senior Product Manager: Commercial Issuing
Job Overview
Absa Business Banking is hiring a Senior Product Manager: Commercial Issuing in Johannesburg (requisition R-15992127; full time; posted 19 October 2026, closing 26 October 2026). The role is accountable for the end-to-end strategy, commercial performance and customer value proposition of assigned Commercial Issuing products and payment capabilities, owning or materially influencing the P&L and personally owning product outcomes rather than simply coordinating activities performed by other teams.
The Senior Product Manager translates business and client needs into viable propositions, credible business cases and evidence-based roadmaps, managing product performance, profitability, adoption, risk, compliance, operational readiness and technology dependencies across the full lifecycle, from discovery through launch, optimisation and retirement. The role requires practical knowledge of the commercial card and business-payments ecosystem, including spend control, reconciliation, virtual payments, enriched transaction data and ERP or expense-management integration, and leads delivery through Technology, Operations, Sales, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Fraud and Credit teams that do not report directly to it.
Key Responsibilities
Own assigned Commercial Issuing products from opportunity identification through development, launch, growth, optimisation and retirement
Define product vision, target market, value proposition and commercial outcomes; secure governance, funding, risk and technology approvals
Own or materially influence product P&L: pricing, transaction revenue, margins, operating costs, budgets and forecasts
Analyse active cards, activation, spend, transaction yield, retention and cost to serve; drive revenue-growth and cost-optimisation plans
Develop business cases quantifying revenue, savings, costs, ROI and payback; track benefits after implementation
Design propositions for business clients’ payment, working-capital, control, reporting and reconciliation needs
Build evidence-based roadmaps and make defensible prioritisation decisions under capacity and funding constraints
Lead cross-functional delivery through Technology, Operations, Sales, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Fraud and Credit
Manage go-to-market readiness, product migrations and closures with controlled customer impact
Ensure products operate within legal, regulatory, scheme, credit, fraud, conduct and operational-risk requirements
Engage bankers, clients, card schemes, processors and technology partners; present to senior governance forums
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in Business, Commerce or Management Studies (required)
Strong product-management discipline across the full product lifecycle
Practical knowledge of the commercial card and business-payments ecosystem
Demonstrable P&L capability: pricing, transaction revenue, margins, forecasting and benefits realisation
Track record of personal accountability for product validation, business cases, approvals, delivery and post-launch measurement
Ability to secure outcomes through cross-functional teams with competing priorities, with minimal supervision
Understanding of product governance, scheme rules, fraud and conduct risk
