Job Overview
At Amazon, HR Partners (HRP) provide high-judgment HR support to managers across levels at scale, enabling them to become force multipliers for customer impact and positive employee experience. Amazon's People eXperience & Technology (PXT) team is hiring a Senior HR Partner for South Africa, based in Cape Town.
You will act as a trusted consultant to managers and senior leaders, work backwards from the voice of the manager, and drive large-scale initiatives using technology and simplified processes. Operating independently as a subject matter expert on regional programmes and policies, you will collaborate extensively with HR Business Partners, Employee Relations, Legal and others to deliver integrated people solutions.
A typical day spans coaching a manager through a sensitive performance conversation, analysing performance trends across teams, partnering on complex ER investigations and regional policy rollouts, and preparing strategic recommendations for senior leadership on organisational change.
Key Responsibilities
• Support managers and senior leaders through complex performance management cases, incl. PIPs and assessments, ensuring bias-free evaluations
• Lead employee relations: thorough investigations, grievance processes, policy guidance and compliance with SA labour legislation
• Drive change management and programme implementation with HRBPs and central teams, using data to advocate for process improvements
• Develop and implement HR policies aligned with local labour law and standardised, integrated processes
• Serve as strategic partner on ambiguous initiatives — define goals, inform senior-leader decisions and present recommendations through narratives and documentation
• Spot emerging trends from front-line visibility and improve manager capability and employee experience
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in business, HR or a related field
• Experience as an HR generalist (e.g. HR Business Partner or HR Partner) in a matrixed organisation
• Experience managing CCMA cases and Employee Relations within the South African legal framework
• Knowledge and practical application of South African Labour Law
• Fluent written and spoken English (CEFR C2)
• Preferred: presenting to senior leadership, coaching/consulting, country or regional HR programme delivery, project management and process improvement
