Job Overview

Amazon Web Services Professional Services seeks a Senior Engagement Manager in South Africa (Cape Town or Waterfall City) to lead delivery of complex cloud solution projects. You combine technical credibility with programme leadership, bridging customer business outcomes with AWS technical solutions, facilitating engineering discussions, and applying frameworks such as Well-Architected and the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF).

Working with customer teams and the AWS Partner Network, you will distill needs into clear requirements, manage technical and delivery risk, achieve and maintain relevant AWS certifications, and drive projects to completion while exceeding customer expectations. EE considerations apply for SA designated groups; lawful work authorisation in South Africa is required.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage complex cloud migration and implementation programmes. Guide technical decisions using AWS services, architectures and best practices; bridge business requirements with technical solutions and ensure alignment to customer outcomes. Distill customer needs into clear technical requirements mapped to business outcomes; decompose complex problems into actionable deliverables; make informed trade-offs across performance, scalability, security and business impact.

Validate technical solutions against business goals; recognise when further technical evaluation is needed; manage technical risks, issues and escalations. Contribute to technical documentation and define documentation standards. Execute project plans with proactive risk and issue management; influence C-level, IT and line-of-business stakeholders; and progressively lead more complex engagements while shaping cross-organisational technical strategies and domain best practices.

Required Qualifications

Basic: 5+ years’ cloud computing experience; 5+ years leading multiple Agile teams concurrently or at scale (e.g. Scrum Masters, Product Owners); 5+ years leading and delivering enterprise-level IT engagements; knowledge of public-cloud value proposition and engagement delivery (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS).

Preferred: 5+ years delivering customer engagements in a professional-services role; active project-management certification (e.g. APM, CSM, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2); AWS certification; experience with Agile/PM toolsets (Jira, Rally, VersionOne or Taiga); experience presenting to C-level executives across organisations. Identity/passport (and work permit if foreign national) plus updated CV required for SA hiring process.
