Principal: Property Finance Africa
Job Overview
Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking is appointing a Principal: Property Finance Africa in Johannesburg (requisition 148216; listed 14 October 2026). The Principal originates, structures, executes and manages complex property-finance opportunities across selected African markets, building trusted client, partner and internal stakeholder relationships through credit approval, financial close, portfolio stewardship and value realisation within Nedbank risk appetite, governance and conduct standards.
The role initially carries a focused mandate with the Divisional Executive and East African stakeholders to size, structure and activate the East Africa opportunity—identifying real-estate businesses and missed opportunities in the existing client base, establishing cross-bank origination and revenue-sharing mechanisms, determining co-funding appetite, and defining migration criteria from term lending into structured Property Finance Africa solutions.
This is a senior deal-leadership role spanning origination, multidisciplinary execution, credit sponsorship and portfolio stewardship across multi-currency African property finance. Full-time permanent; applications via Nedbank careers.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and maintain a high-quality pipeline across priority property sectors, clients and jurisdictions
• Develop senior relationships with property companies, developers, investors, funds, financial institutions, advisers and ecosystem partners
• Convert client needs into bankable financing, investment, hedging, transactional banking and broader CIB opportunities
• Lead multidisciplinary deal teams through screening, due diligence, structuring, valuation, modelling, credit submission, documentation, conditions precedent and financial close
• Structure local- and foreign-currency solutions appropriate to asset cash flows, country risk, tax, legal, regulatory and funding considerations
• Prepare and sponsor decision-useful credit papers; ensure compliance with mandates, risk appetite, country limits and approval conditions
• Monitor exposures, covenants, asset performance, valuations and emerging risks; lead early intervention or remediation when indicators deteriorate
• Deliver balance-sheet deployment, revenue, return, fee and cross-sell outcomes; optimise pricing, capital and funding
• Coach Senior Associates and Associate Principals; contribute sector playbooks and market intelligence
• Size and integrate the East Africa opportunity into the Property Finance Africa strategy and operating model
Required Qualifications
• Relevant bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, economics, accounting, property studies, law, engineering or related discipline
• Preferred: CA(SA), CFA, Master’s in Commerce/Sciences/Legal or specialist property-finance credential
• 8–12 years relevant sector/industry experience (mandatory)
• 5+ years experience in the East African property market (mandatory)
• Substantial experience in property finance, CIB, structured finance or real-estate investment
• Demonstrated origination and execution of complex transactions through credit approval and financial close
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary deal teams and engage senior executives, clients and risk stakeholders
• Cross-border, multi-currency, tax, legal and regulatory experience across African markets
• Portfolio management, early-warning and restructuring experience advantageous
• Technical depth in property credit analysis, cash-flow modelling, valuation, debt structuring, covenants, syndication and risk-adjusted pricing
