Job Overview

Nedbank Business and Commercial Banking is hiring a Manager: Credit Risk SME in Johannesburg (Req 148023, Credit Collections career stream). The purpose of the role is to provide client service by applying sound credit risk management principles through the management of staff, enabling Nedbank to reduce the SME impairment charge with a view to rehabilitate, in line with business strategy.

You will join a high-performing SME Credit team, shaping sound credit risk decisions, supporting client rehabilitation strategies and protecting the bank's portfolio. The role leads and develops a team of credit professionals, prepares MIS-based portfolio reviews, manages default accounts and repayment arrangements, and works closely with bankers and business stakeholders.

Requires at least five years in a banking credit environment with exposure to SME credit risk, credit assessment, portfolio management, collections or recoveries. Applications close 13 October 2026.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop portfolio review presentations based on Management Information Systems (MIS) and draft month-end business reports

• Manage default accounts timeously by obtaining acceptable repayment arrangements or handing over to the Recoveries Centre

• Develop client exit or rehabilitation strategies through annual reviews of client facilities

• Provide advice on specialised credit risk matters to sales and direct reports and upskill bankers on credit processes, policies and documentation

• Manage, coach and develop staff; implement performance agreements and close performance gaps using MIS data

• Enhance credit policies, procedures and systems through continuous innovation

• Ensure clean audit and compliance with bank policies, legislation and industry regulations

• Resolve client queries within turnaround times and build a client-service culture

Required Qualifications

• Matric plus Advanced Diploma / National first degree

• Preferred: BCom, BTech, Diploma or equivalent in Credit Management, Finance, Banking, Accounting, Risk Management or related field

• Minimum 5 years in a banking credit environment with exposure to SME credit risk, credit assessment, portfolio management, collections, recoveries or credit risk management

• Knowledge of governance, risk and controls, financial accounting principles, MIS and reporting, and change management
