Dispensary Manager – East London
Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies — one of South Africa's largest retail pharmacy groups — is appointing a Dispensary Manager for its East London store. You will manage and supervise the dispensary and self-medication areas and their staff, taking responsibility for patients' pharmaceutical-care needs and being accountable for meeting them.
The role combines professional pharmacy practice with retail management: ensuring Good Pharmacy Practice and SAPC rules are followed, running tight stock control (ordering compliance, expiries, negative stock, stocktake readiness and the Schedule 6 register), and owning the medical-aid claims and authorisation process for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication.
Suited to a registered pharmacist and SAPC-registered tutor with staff-supervision experience — ideally having managed a team of seven or more in a retail/FMCG pharmacy — who is comfortable on Unisolv (SAP and e-scripting advantageous) and willing to work retail hours.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and supervise the dispensary and self-medication areas, ensuring adequate staffing and that staff work within their scope of practice
Ensure adherence to Good Pharmacy Practice rules and regulations and keep SAPC registrations and annual fees current
Run stock control: maintain stock levels, follow ordering processes for purchasing compliance, investigate negative stock daily and prepare for stocktakes
Ensure no expired or short-dated stock is held, expired stock is disposed of correctly, and Schedule 6 medication is secured with a balanced register
Accurately interpret and capture scripts, verify patient details and ensure correct picking, packing, labelling and checking of medication
Counsel patients on correct medicine use, dosages and important drug interactions
Manage medical-aid processes: explain costs, submit accurate claims and secure authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication
Maintain customer profiles and train the Dispensary Admin Assistant to own the bulk of dispensary administration
Required Qualifications
Grade 12 / Matric and a BPharm or equivalent qualification
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and a registered tutor
Unisolv experience and proven experience supervising staff
Computer literate (MS Office), sound numerical skills and strong English plus a second language
Advantageous: management of 7+ staff, retail/FMCG experience, SAP and e-scripting experience
Willing to work retail hours; valid driver's licence and own transport; SA citizen with clear credit and criminal records
