Data Center Facility Manager, DCEO
Job Overview
AWS Infrastructure Services — the team that designs, plans, delivers and operates all AWS global infrastructure — is hiring a Data Center Facility Manager for Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) in Cape Town. You will be an engineering leader driving operational excellence across mission-critical data center environments, ensuring uninterrupted service for AWS customers.
The role leads shift technicians, contractors and vendors across multiple data center availability zones, and operates and manages critical systems including power distribution, generators, cooling infrastructure and monitoring systems. Days blend strategic planning, hands-on technical oversight and team leadership, with proactive problem-solving and system optimisation.
You will also develop and execute project plans that improve facility efficiency and performance and support facility expansion and infrastructure development as the AWS footprint in South Africa grows.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and lead shift technicians, contractors and vendors to high operational standards
• Oversee multiple data center availability zones and implement strategic infrastructure management
• Develop and execute comprehensive project plans that enhance facility efficiency and performance
• Operate and manage power distribution, generators, cooling infrastructure and monitoring systems
• Maintain SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting
• Support facility expansion and infrastructure development projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement and system optimisation
Required Qualifications
• 2+ years of people management and team development experience
• 5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services
• Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting; experience operating a mission-critical team or product
• High school or equivalent
• Preferred: 3+ years managing 5+ direct reports and 5+ years in data centers (building and equipment operation)
• Preferred: Bachelor's in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; knowledge of feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, AHUs and CRAC units
