Job Overview

Tumaini Consulting is recruiting an Actuarial Expert in Johannesburg for an expanding client (Careers24 2394918; permanent; advertised R66,667 per month / R800,000 per annum). The Actuarial Expert reports to the Director of the General Insurance team and provides actuarial and technical assistance to clients; the same division is responsible for Enterprise Risk and Capital Management and Data Analytics.

The role suits a qualified actuary with 5–8 years’ general insurance experience in pricing or reserving and capital modelling, strong statistical modelling and programming capability (such as R), and exposure to SAM, ORSAs, valuations and solvency calculations, together with the communication skills to convey complex messages clearly to clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide actuarial and technical assistance to general insurance clients

• Support pricing, reserving and capital modelling work for the General Insurance team

• Build and apply statistical models using programming languages such as R

• Support SAM, ORSA, valuation and solvency calculation work where required

• Contribute to the division’s Enterprise Risk and Capital Management and Data Analytics work

• Convey complex actuarial findings clearly and persuasively to clients and stakeholders

• Meet deadlines and provide regular progress feedback to the Director

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar

• Qualified Actuary

• 5–8 years’ General Insurance experience in pricing or reserving and capital modelling

• Strong statistical modelling and programming skills (e.g. R)

• Advantageous: short-term insurance practising certificate; SAM, ORSA, valuations and solvency experience

• Excellent written and verbal English communication and strong attention to detail
